From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 21, 1971:

Following a recent disturbance at a local tavern and the arrests of three men who were involved, city and law enforcement agencies were meeting with representatives from Haskell Indian Junior College. Officials were attempting “to coordinate efforts, improve understanding and communications between Lawrence and Haskell.” Haskell dean of students Frank Quiring said that students had become frustrated in their attempts to communicate effectively with the city, police, and even those within the campus structure. “The students are … just asking for everybody’s patience,” Quiring said. “They want them to be aware that these people come from different places in the country and they’re having a hard time making adjustments.”
