25 years ago: Hiring freeze implemented at KU

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 19, 1986:

  • According to a memorandum from Executive Vice Chancellor Robert P. Cobb, a hiring freeze had been placed at Kansas University. All reclassifications and appointments for both classified and unclassified KU employees were frozen, effective immediately. Cobb cited a shortfall of state revenues as the reason for the freeze, which had an indefinite end date.
  • Forms were available at the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department for parents who wanted their young child to receive a December phone call from Santa or one of his elves. The calls were to be made between 1 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 14.
