People’s choice

November 17, 2011

To the editor:

Cal Thomas’ Nov. 15 column relating the Penn State situation with our nation’s is right on target. 1 Samuel 12:14 (ESV) says, “If you will fear the Lord and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God, it will be well.” You refers to “we the people,” and the king refers to those in political leadership.

We are in the early stages of a national election where the “king” and other key officials will be elected to offices. Our and their choices will determine the future course of this nation. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Do we want to live our lives without moral constraints contrary to God’s commandments or do we want to experience a healed nation under God’s direction where “it will be well”? The choice is ours!

So Carl refers to the President as his "king" and allows his government to "reign over" him.

Sorry Carl but you've outdone yourself this time. THe prez in not a king and regardless of how he chooses to pray, he is still a servant to the people.

Keep reading your little book of fables though. If it keeps you indoors, by all means.

Typically Carl, what more can one say?

Cal Thomas comes across as an incredibly mean-spirited, condescending person. He also doesn't seem to understand the difference, say, between homosexuality and pedophilia...preferring to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Frankly, I really, really doubt he's going to get "rewarded" the way he thinks he will when he dies.

As far as Carl Burkhead goes? I think he might need to reread his Bible and determine exactly what his God passed down as "commandments". It's really a rather short list. And there's nothing in the Bible about Carl and Cal getting to determine what else should be added to that list, either. I know that might be tough for them to accept, but sometimes the truth hurts.
