40 years ago: Weather is too warm for good hunting

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 15, 1971:

  • Local hunters were reporting on their successes (or lack thereof) during pheasant and quail season. The best quail areas were apparently south and west of Lawrence. Pheasant hunters who had arrived in western Kansas early Saturday morning had had better luck than those who arrived later, due mainly to high winds and dust in many regions. Gary Taylor of Lawrence, who had hunted quail west of Garnett, had reached his limit of eight quail but said that the weather was still too hot and dry for really good hunting.
  • Spring-like weather continued to prevail in northeast Kansas, with the 1956 record high of 74 degrees tied over the weekend. Light snow was expected to develop in western Kansas later in the week as a very slow-moving cold front began to creep over the state.
