— Six months into his first term in Congress, Rep. Mike Pompeo spent more on employee salaries than Kansas’ other members in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Pompeo’s total was $5,000 more than the $414,000 paid to staff in the first half of 2011 by Rep. Lynn Jenkins.

Rep. Kevin Yoder, a Republican from Johnson County, handed out the smallest amount in paychecks among the state’s House members. His six-month total of $310,000 was less than the $364,000 spent by another Kansas freshman, Rep. Tim Huelskamp.

Pompeo’s spokeswoman Rachel Taylor said Pompeo voted twice to reduce the amount allocated to each member for office expenditures and that his staff’s expenses “reflect the hefty workload and the caliber of work product” that Pompeo expects.

AP missed the best quote from Pompeo's spokeswoman:

"Just as when he ran two businesses, Congressman Pompeo believes that investing in talented people leads to organizational achievement and he has brought that successful model with him to Congress." http://cjonline.com/news/2011-11-12/pompeo-tops-kansas-peers-staff-wages

Of course, he only believes in "investing in talented people" in government when they work for him. Otherwise he thinks government workers need to have their salaries cut, or just be laid off altogether.

"Do as I say, not as I do" - the motto of today's Republican Party.

Aren't his staff government employees? Didn't he get the message from the Koch brothers that any and all salary payments to government employees are a waste? That government resources should instead be spent on Koch Bros. operations?

Oh, almost forgot-- Pompeo's staff are Koch employees.

You cant compare a congressional staffer salary to a white house salary. You could compare it to other Congressional salaries though.
