25 years ago: Plans under way for annual Bromelsick party

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 13, 1986:

  • Stan Herd’s Sunflower earthwork near Eudora was gaining more national attention. A story about the carefully plowed and planted field had appeared in a recent Wall Street Journal. The earthwork had also been featured on the cover of the November issue of Farm Journal as well as appearing as a feature story in the Nov. 2 edition of the Los Angeles Times.
  • An annual festivity was already in the planning stages. This year’s Bromelsick Christmas Party was to be held in Hoch Auditorium on Dec. 20. All Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H members in Douglas County were welcome to attend. As former Scouts and 4-H’ers will remember, the annual party, then in its 35th year, was made possible by the terms of the will of Alfred Bromelsick, who upon his death in 1952 had left his estate to benefit the three youth organizations.
