25 years ago: Lawrence bracing for rapidly-moving cold front

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 10, 1986:

The Lawrence area was heading into its first real taste of winter, thanks to an arctic front that was expected to arrive in the early afternoon. Temperatures were to drop into the teens, with one to three inches of snow in the forecast. As an example of the front’s rapid approach, the city of Goodland earlier this morning had experienced a drop from 29 degrees to 14 degrees within one hour.

Two dedicated Bruce Springsteen fans had braved the freezing weather to be on hand for the morning opening of Kief’s Discount Records & Stereo Supply. The fans had been awaiting their chance to purchase the long-awaited recording, “Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Live/1975-1985.” Kief’s manager Steve Wilson said that he had ordered between 500 and 600 copies of the recording, which he expected to sell out within two weeks.
