Fort Worth, Texas ? Another round to Tony Stewart, and quite a fight for the Cup title with two races left.

Stewart raced to his second consecutive victory, and won for the fourth time in eight NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup races, finishing just ahead of points leader Carl Edwards in the so-called “Texas Title Fight” that fully lived up to its billing Sunday.

And Stewart backed up his challenge.

After winning last week at Martinsville, Stewart got out of his car in Victory Lane and said Edwards “better be worried. That’s all I’m saying.”

Now it looks like a two-driver fight for the championship with two races left after they finished 1-2 at the 11/2-mile, high-banked Texas track.

Stewart cut his points deficit from eight points to three with an average speed of 152.705 mph, the fastest Cup race at Texas, and a 1.092-second margin over Edwards.

“We’re set on it, man. This is just the way it’s going to be,” Stewart said. “I don’t think we have to say anything (else). I think our performance today speaks for itself. He knows already, trust me.”

OSU moves up to No. 2

New York — LSU put a lock on the top spot, Oklahoma State moved up to No. 2 for the best ranking in school history, and Alabama slipped to No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after losing a 1 vs. 2 showdown against the Tigers.

LSU received 59 out of 60 first-place votes Sunday after beating the Crimson Tide 9-6 in overtime in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the night before.

Oklahoma State moved up one spot after a wild 52-45 victory against Kansas State and Stanford also inched up to No. 3.

Alabama slipped two spots. Boise State remained No. 5 with one first-place vote.

Penn State officals charged

State College, Pa. — The Penn State board met in executive session Sunday following the weekend announcement that criminal charges were filed against retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky that accused him of sexually abusing young boys.

Two top university officials — Gary C. Schultz, the university’s senior vice president for finance and business, and Penn State athletic director Tim Curley — also were charged in the case, announced Saturday.

Sandusky is accused of sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years. Schultz and Curley were both charged with failing to report to state and county officials that a witness told them he saw Sandusky sexually abusing a naked boy in the showers of a team practice facility. They also face a perjury charge.

Texas RB to transfer

Austin, Texas — Texas red-shirt freshman running back Traylon Shead is leaving the No. 21 Longhorns and will transfer to another school. A former high school All-American at Cayuga High School, Shead announced his decision Sunday night through a Longhorns team spokesman. Shead did not say which school he will attend.

A&M wins Big 12 title

San Antonio — Megan Majewski scored on a rebound goal in the final seconds to give Texas A&M a 1-0 victory against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 women’s soccer championship game Sunday.

Majewski’s game-winner came after Kelley Monogue split the OSU defense and took a shot that hit the cross bar.

The Aggies (15-5-2) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and handed Oklahoma State (19-1-2) its first loss.

New York — Geoffrey Mutai shattered the course record in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, no surprise after he ran the fastest marathon ever earlier this year.
