KU’s Self not fretting over Missouri’s decision to leave Big 12 for SEC

Majority of Kansas fans don’t give a flip about playing Missouri,’ Jayhawk basketball coach states

Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self will not lose any sleep in coming days, weeks and months over Missouri bolting the Big 12 Conference for the SEC.

“I think everybody hoped that Missouri would stay, but I don’t know of any Kansas fans that are crying over them leaving,” Self told the Journal-World on Sunday night, following the announcement that the Tigers had bid the Big 12 farewell.

Self was asked if the Jayhawks and Tigers would play again in men’s basketball.

“We will play them two more times — we’ve got them home and away this year,” Self stated.

What about perhaps scheduling the Tigers down the line?

“Like I said before, we have absolutely no obligation whatsoever to play Missouri in basketball. None,” Self said. “If we do so, it will only be done because it’s best for Kansas, not done because anybody else wants us to. We couldn’t care less what Missouri wants. If in fact they want to play us, it will be strictly determined if we want to. It will not be determined by other people, because I’ll be honest, the majority of Kansas fans don’t give a flip about playing Missouri.”

KU athletic director Sheahon Zenger and Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little issued statements Sunday. Zenger said: “This news doesn’t surprise us. We wish Missouri all the best in the future. The University of Kansas can now focus on TCU, West Virginia University and the other members of the Big 12 Conference who choose to be with us.”

Gray-Little said: “We’re sorry to see a century-old conference rivalry end. Missouri’s decision may have implications for fans and for the Kansas City area, but it won’t affect the long-term strength of the Big 12.”

MU no longer a Big 12 member. Why should KU play them? KU needs to schedule within their conference, then schedule teams that will help their program MU left Big 12, so conference owes them nothing. MU tried ti destroy Big 12 last year, but Big 10 wouldn't have them. Then this year they apparently had to beg and plead to get SEC to finally take them. They are overly impressed with what they think they are worth to any conference. They were typically a low level competitor in all sports and will continue at same level or lower in SEC.

It is so hysterically funny that you meth-head-inbred-trailer trash Mizzou fans are on here talking smack. Why don't you all grab your underage couzins and create your own earthquake, d-bags.

So I guess Billy Self-Centered got the call from KU's masters in Austin. What a bunch of sorry, sore losers. My three-year-old acts more mature.

Finally, after more than a century-and-a-half, we are finally through with Kansas.

Good Riddance

Hammertoe (anonymous) says… If KU had an offer to join the SEC, would they take it? Yes.

...perhaps this is the thought of some.

Another perspective,

Driving the Pace Car on a NASCAR track doesn't make you a competitor. Welcome to your new home Mizzou! Maybe fighting Vandy to be the bottom-feeder of the "best-league" will be the Nirvana you seek, or at least provide some comfort for the blistering rejection delivered by the Big 10 (apparently still a gaping gash in your collective egos).

Why does Mizzou think that the grass is greener in the SEC? Because it rains more? In basketball they are going to have to play LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, and Auburn just to name a few, and they think they will be easier to play than Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State? Doubtful!

The KU/MU rivalry in football dates to 1891, and in basketball to 1907. Mizzou you left the Big 12, not KU, so why should we continue to play you when your mug and thug players are nasty when we play in Columbia. And when you play in Lawrence, you do not spend any money on the Kansas side to begin with. A trick learned from Norm Stewart.

Mizzou, good bye, and do not let the door hit your butt on the way out, just leave. Oh, and I hope that your SEC record in Basketball improves! NOT!

Really can't blame you guys for ending the series by refusing to play Mizzou non-con. After all, that's really the only thing about your athletic future that isn't up to the whim of Texas and Oklahoma.

Missouri. Six million people. Five last names.

You go, Bill! Really like a coach who speaks his mind (too bad they can't do it with officials). Why is the SEC so happy to be mu's second choice, anyway? The SEC already has 2 Tigers down there. LSU & Auburn don't get along. Tigers are solitary cats. They only come together to mate. That bodes ill for mu.............I hope.

We traded our scary hillbillies for some fun ones.

Kind of like trading the hillbillies from Deliverance for the Beverly Hillbillies.

HUGE improvement!! Welcome WVU!!!

The good news for the tiggers is that they'll be hanging around with all their in-bred family from the backwoods of Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee now. That ought to be worth somethin to the ones that can actually read and understand english.

another friggin Jayhawk fan

Dear SEC, Missouri is now YOUR problem. You might want to stock up on latex gloves, wet wipes and maybe a new diaper genie, jumbo size. Sincerely, The Flippin' Jayhawks

I am totally on board with Self's comment. Good bye.

Does 'flip' mean the same as 'friggin' and 'frickin'?

Oh my golly!
