25 years ago: United Fund raises goal for fund drive

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 30, 1986:

  • United Fund officials announced that their fund-raising goal for their annual drive was to increase by $100,000 from the previous year. The 20 percent increase was the largest year-to-year jump in the history of the group’s annual fundraising campaign. As they announced the overall $600,000 goal, the agency also released a tentative list of allocations for 22 local agencies and organizations.
  • The brief quiet break on campus and in town was about to come to an end. Kansas University, whose students had finished classes two weeks earlier, was set to start its first summer session during the following week. Summer enrollment was expected to top 7,000 as it had the previous year.
