Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt offers safety tips in preparation for National Missing Children’s Day

? Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is preparing for National Missing Children’s Day by publicly encouraging parents to talk to their children about safety.

The observance is Wednesday. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has a “Take 25” campaign for that day — May 25.

The goal is to get parents to talk their children about safety for 25 minutes. Schmidt said such conversations can prevent children from becoming victims.

The national center lists almost 2,800 children in its database of missing and exploited children, including 20 from Kansas.

Schmidt says parents should keep identifying information on children up-to-date. Having a kit with a child’s fingerprints, height, weight, and a current photo can make it easier to quickly locate a missing child.
