Dixon wins 400; KU 7th, 6th at Big 12

? Kansas University freshman Diamond Dixon came from behind in the final 100 meters to win the 400-meter title at the big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

Dixon won in a school-record 51.55 seconds — the best time in the NCAA this year — to pace the KU women to a seventh-place finish in the team race.

Mason Finley placed second in the discus Sunday to lead the Kansas men to sixth place.

“Coming into the meet, I thought we could be in the middle of the pack at the conference meet, and it happened with both the men and the women,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “It really happened how we had mapped it out. We got three winners; Jordan (Scott), Mason, and Diamond. They had great performances and we had a lot of other people step up.

“The Big 12 a very tough conference. You can be top 25 in the country and still finish sixth in your conference so that just shows you the level of competition we had here this weekend.”

Texas A&M won both team titles.
