From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 16, 1986:

• The Kansas University class of 1936 had turned out some impressive graduates, and several of them were expected to attend their 50th reunion in Lawrence during the upcoming weekend. About 200 alumni were expected to attend. Among the notables were Franklin Murphy, former KU chancellor and current chairman of the executive committee for the Times-Mirror Corp.; Clyde Tombaugh, discoverer of Pluto; former FBI director Clarence Kelley; and Edwin Phelps, former Jayhawk center who had been named to Sports Illustrated’s Silver Anniversary All America Team in 1960.
• A twig dropped by a nest-building bird was responsible for the loss of electric power to about 3,400 customers in North Lawrence and the rural areas north of the river for a short time recently. The 45-minute outage, which affected customers as far west as Williamstown and as far east as Linwood, had been caused by “a bird dropping a twig on a substation bus at our FMC substation,” said the district manager for KPL Gas Service.
