Lawrence police arrest second adult suspect in robbery investigation

Lawrence police detectives arrested a second adult suspect Saturday in connection with a central Lawrence robbery investigation.

Police took a 19-year-old Ottawa man into custody Saturday morning at his Ottawa residence and brought him to the Douglas County Jail on counts of aggravated robbery and kidnapping. A judge set the man’s bond at $75,000.

Police said Friday they arrested a 22-year-old Richmond man in Ottawa on several charges, including aggravated robbery, kidnapping and aggravated intimidation of a witness, and a judge set his bond at the same amount. Officers said he was arrested related to an investigation into two alleged robberies that occurred in February and March in the 800 block of Hilltop Drive near Ninth and Iowa streets. Police have also arrested a juvenile suspect in the case.

The victim in the case alleged an acquaintance and another person held and tied him up at gunpoint at his residence and stole money and property. He also said several people robbed him again at gunpoint at the residence in mid-March. That time he received treatment a few days later at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for being struck in the face, police said.

Prosecutors likely won’t file official charges against any suspects in the case until Monday. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
