Newton school lockdown due to teens playing with BB gun in nearby yard
Newton ? Police say a lockdown at south-central Kansas elementary school this week was caused by a couple of boys in a nearby yard playing with a BB gun.
A woman driving by a house in Newton Wednesday morning thought she saw a man run outside with a gun-wielding man in pursuit.
She called 911 when she heard a pop and saw the first man go down, prompting a lockdown at Sunset Elementary School two blocks away.
Emergency Response Team officers went to the home and found two teens pretending to shoot at each other with a BB gun. Police Lt. Eric Murphy says the boys were cooperative and there were no injuries.
Newton is located about 25 miles north of Wichita.
