A Douglas County judge Wednesday sentenced a 35-year-old Lawrence woman to serve 12 months on probation and complete alcohol abuse treatment in connection with a March 12 fight at a Lawrence party.

Sarah C. Mason pleaded no contest to three counts of misdemeanor battery and one count of misdemeanor criminal damage. Chief assistant district attorney David Melton alleged that Mason during an argument with a Lawrence man shoved him down once and also chased him to his car and broke his driver’s side window and struck him while he was in the vehicle.

The incident occurred early March 12 in the 900 block of West 29th Terrace, Melton said. Police said the argument was about alcohol.

Mason told District Judge Kay Huff that she had enrolled in an outpatient alcohol abuse treatment program. Huff ordered Mason to complete the treatment and any other treatment recommended by her probation officer. Melton said he expected Mason to have to pay $200 restitution to the victim.

Mason initially faced a felony aggravated battery charge because police also alleged she stabbed the man with a pocket knife, but that count was dropped in exchange for the plea.
