Military news for March 19, 2011

Pvt. Dalton W. Welsh, 19, Lawrence, graduated March 4 from United States Marine Corps basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

While in basic training Welsh achieved sharpshooter in rifle qualifications, received the National Defense ribbon, was recognized as most developed recruit in platoon 1074, and excelled in Marine Corps knowledge.

Following a 10-day leave, he will report to Camp Pendleton for a month of Military Combat Training, and then to Military Occupation Specialty School at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Welsh will be stationed with the 24th Marines in Kansas City, Mo., following training.

He is a 2010 graduate of Lawrence High School and the son of Derek and Brenda Welsh, Lawrence.
