From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Mar. 18, 1986:

  • Twenty-seven Kansas City schoolchildren, heading to Lawrence to participate in “Exchange City,” and five adults suffered minor injuries when their school bus was hit by a farm truck. The two-ton grain truck, traveling eastbound on Hwy. 24-40 about eight miles east of Tonganoxie, had spun out of control on the rain-slicked highway and collided with the bus. Four ambulances had responded to the scene, transporting the children to Providence-St. Margaret Health Center in Kansas City, Kan. “To the best of my knowledge, there are no serious injuries,” said a hospital representative.
  • Gusty winds, rain, and even a little snow were in the Lawrence forecast, but the large display of bright daffodils in front of City Hall at Sixth and Massachusetts was gladdening the hearts of many local residents.
