Hearing set for disabled vet accused of stalking Westboro Baptist Church members

March 17, 2011, 8:53 a.m. Updated March 17, 2011, 12:05 p.m.

— A new hearing date has been set for a disabled Army veteran accused of stalking members of a Topeka church.

Ryan Newell's scheduled preliminary hearing Thursday has again been continued. The new date is March 31 in Sedgwick County District Court.

Newell — who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan — is charged with felony conspiracy to commit aggravated battery and five misdemeanors.

The Marion man was arrested Nov. 30 after sheriff's detectives found his vehicle parked outside Wichita City Hall while five Westboro Baptist Church members met with police inside.

Westboro members protest military funerals, claiming soldier deaths are God's punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Why in the world is it a problem, let alone a crime, for anyone to stalk those crazy people? The Phelps klan are lucky that stalking is the only thing done to them.

It's so good to finally meet you! I've been looking forward to someday meeting (even via the internet) the person that gets to decide which people it is OK to stalk. We are all honored. Can we get a comprehensive list of people that may be legally stalked. I want to see if I'm on it.

Here is a very interesting interview with one of the Phelp´s son who escaped the cult talking about the physical abuse. I do not understand why this is not getting more press as it is quite significant.

A member of the phelps family comes out with information about physical abuse and drug use and you think it is not connected to a story about the Phelps?

LOL, honestly...what a maroon you are.
