25 years ago: Jayhawks move to second round in NCAA tournament

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Mar. 14, 1986:

The Kansas Jayhawks were victorious in round one of the NCAA basketball tournament, beating North Carolina A&T 71-46 in the Midwest Regional opener in the Dayton Arena. The second round game against Temple, a 61-50 overtime winner against Jacksonville, was coming up on Saturday.

The Main Street “resource team” which had been studying Lawrence’s downtown for a week reported their findings at a public meeting. The downtown revitalization experts said that the downtown area was in “much better shape” than that of most cities they’d consulted on, but that there was still room for improvement. Specific recommendations included establishing a Business Improvement District, having annual promotional events, recruiting additional retail, office and residential use, and cleaning and maintaining the facades of historically and architecturally important downtown buildings.
