40 years ago: Dog protects owner from car-jacking, assault

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Mar. 12, 1971:

A woman described as a “Lawrence housewife” had been driving near Sixth and Maine when, at a traffic stop, a man forced his way into her car. He ordered the woman to continue west and to turn at Wisconsin, and as she did so, he made a pass at her. Her dog, riding in the back seat, jumped into the front seat and attacked the intruder. The man jumped from the car and ran off, and the woman and her dog continued on to the National Guard Armory on North Iowa, where they were attending a dog obedience class.
