Gov. Brownback signs first bill into law

? Two months after taking office, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has signed his first bill into law.

The legislation signed Friday streamlines the vehicle registration process for businesses with fleets of more than 250 vehicles.

Those companies will be able to register all of their vehicles and pay taxes and fees directly to the state Division of Motor Vehicles, instead of going to each county where they operate. The state will remit the tax payments to the counties.

Brownback says the new law will spare businesses the time and cost of going to each county to register vehicles.

The Republican governor has made reforming business laws and regulations a priority.
