4-H and FCE news for March 5, 2011

The Kanwaka 4-H club met Feb. 14 at Kanwaka Township Hall. Thirteen members were present.

In leaders’ reports, Cairy Rainey and Leann Dickson wished the club good luck in the 4-H County Club days, which were Feb. 19. Leann Dickson also told the club to start thinking about summer and camps.

In committees, Sarah Ward thanked the club for the donated supplies for Cross Roads, a dog shelter that takes care of dogs that other shelters don’t take.

In new business, Cairy Rainey suggested for the club to make little cards for St. Patrick’s Day for Meals on Wheels. The motion passed. At the next meeting, the club will meet at 6:45 p.m. to sign the cards. The idea came from what the Meadowlark 4-H club did for Valentine’s Day.

During the program, Alex Price gave a talk on confidence. Jenalee Dickson gave a report on volleyball, and the Keslars performed the dance they took to County Club Days. The game in recreation was Wax Museum.

Mariah Dickson announced there will be a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. today at Applebee’s, 3900 W. Sixth St., Lawrence. Tickets are $5. The money will go toward the Citizenship Washington Focus.

The meeting was adjourned with the club motto, led by February birthdays.

Douglas County FCE and Kansas State Research and Extension Family and Consumer Sciences announce their March program, “Scraps to Treasures-Rag Rugs.” Regina Shaver, India FCE, Watkins Community Museum, will be presenting. The event will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Dreher Building at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. For more information, call Shaver 841-6501 or 760-1411.
