Lori Alvarado starts Aug. 1, 2011, as executive director of the Kansas Head Start Association, which is based in Lawrence.

The Kansas Head Start Association will welcome a new executive director to its Lawrence headquarters Aug. 1.

Lori Alvarado, who served for the past three years as a regional director for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, will take over for Mary Baskett, who is retiring after having served as the association’s leader since 1999.

The association, 932 Mass., Suite 301, represents all 28 Head Start programs in the state, which provide child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop early reading and math skills to be successful in school.

Before her work at SRS, Alvarado served as director of DCCCA Family Service Center and DCCCA Regional Prevention Center, both in Lawrence.

Alvarado also has worked previously with Head Start and Early Head Start programs as a trainer, helping to incorporate prevention strategies into existing curricula and into parent education.

Yeah? Ain't this funny.....she gets pushed out by Brownback from her political hack job and now is appointed to yet another political hack job.

This "professional" has not one day of experience in "Head Start like" matters. Kindly report on whom she interviewed with.

She had been pulling down over $85,000.00 per year (PLUS benefits AND perks) in her bogus job as SRS KC Metro boss lady.....what she getting paid now, please?

Unctuous.....meritricious......these words, among many others, describe the process and the end product.....

It's for the children, you know? SPIT

Lori was very helpful whenever I worked with her. Actually, went out of her way when others didn't. Congrats, Lori

.....and chldcrdir, having registered today for the purposes of "supporting" her crony, makes their first post....supporting their crony....all is well in cronyland.....It's for the children, you know.....NOT......

Correction.....having registered in April, 2011, chldcrdir.....I stand corrected. Curious no posts until June 27, 2011.....then again....probably not.....It's for the children you know.....

Lori was one of the most respected administrators at SRS. Alceste, frankly, you are speaking out of your a** and obviously have not done any (or enough) research on Lori's contributions to that agency. the article clearly states her previous involvement with Head Start and i'm sure you could call up there and confirm it if you really care that much. Head Start is an amazing progam and is indeed FOR the children. not sure who the hell else you think it's for.
what she makes and who she interviewed with is none of your business; it's clear you think most things are your business.
what i wonder but won't ask because it's none of my business is if you have children and if you do, what your experiences with SRS and Head Start have been.
also, it's spelled meretricious

Alceste never misses a chance to be bitter toward public servants.

Only towards the sell outs....NEVER towards the actually commited and willing to take a risk set.....Alvarado never took a risk in her "professional career"....she's a bought and paid for "YES" person. Period. Children are worse off because of her personal agenda to get paid.....

Oh, sit down and be quiet please, "ToteAlongShaker": I was one of a hanfuld who organized the 1st childcare agency funding in this community (under Title IV as I recall) going back to 1975....the Douglas County ChildCare Association. It all mutated as most involved got co-opted and built a personal income stream around what's what. #1 first is their mantra.......

Alvardo CHOSE to go the route of political cronyism vs. the route of "doing the right thing". She moved into DCCCA under a funny cloak and ended up as KC Metro Director for SRS pulling down more money than any other SRS Area Director. She was impotent in impacting any CHANGE within SRS and, to the contrary, bought into "What's in this for me?" as well as "We've always done it this wayitis...." thinking that so many of the elite elect to buy into.

Now, once again, suffer the little children because some political hack is "running the show". As if.....

thank you for starting my day with a laugh so hard that my co-worker asked what was so funny.

NOW i see where you get your basis for an opinion on her. my guess is that you disagreed with some change she implemented on an organization founded THIRTY SIX years ago.

Opinions aside, pompous jargon does not make people respect you, especially if you continue to misspell and poorly punctuate. i suggest YOU sit down and review a middle school Lit book.
