25 years ago: Plans on track for K-10 industrial park

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 27, 1986:

A 299-acre tract, commonly called the Noria site, had received high praise from planners for use as an industrial park. The site, located on the north side of K-10 just east of the Farmland Industries plant, was undergoing consideration for rezoning from A (agricultural) to M-2 (general industrial) in advance of development as a rail-served park planned by the city and county. The rezoning and annexation proposals were to be presented to later as a package to the city commission. The only dissenting opinion was from an attorney representing the Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas. “I hate to come forward as a dissenting voice of what looks like a unified effort,” said the attorney before pointing out that a small Catholic cemetery in the vicinity would be disrupted if surrounded by industries.
