Felony charge filed in car burglary

Douglas County prosecutors Wednesday filed a felony burglary charge and a misdemeanor theft charge against a 20-year-old Lawrence man who was accused of burglarizing a vehicle early Wednesday morning in a south Lawrence apartment complex.

Prosecutors filed the two charges against Darius L. Davis, who was arrested early Wednesday at The Reserve apartment complex, 2511 W. 31st St. Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman, said an officer on patrol just after midnight observed a man run from behind a vehicle that had the passenger’s side door open. Officers searched the area and arrested Davis and a 21-year-old Lawrence man, who was released from jail after no charges were filed against him Wednesday, according to Douglas County Jail records.

Sarna said police discovered several stolen items and returned property to a 19-year-old Lawrence woman.

“The incident is still under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if other vehicles were entered,” Sarna said.

Prosecutors filed charges against Davis on Wednesday, and a judge set his bond at $1,000, which he later posted.
