25 years ago: TV crew here to film Stan Herd earthwork

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 20, 1986:

  • CBS-TV commentator Charles Kuralt recently had brought his “On the Road” crew to Lawrence. Kuralt and two camera operators had arrived in town to talk to Stan Herd and to film his still-life “earthwork” on a 20-acre field near Eudora.
  • Representatives from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration were also in town, but for a sadder reason. OSHA was here to inspect the Lawrence Avenue interceptor sewer project after a worker had been seriously injured two days earlier at the work site.
  • About 60 elementary school teachers were taking part in a federal program at Haskell Indian Junior College this week. The program was the first of two sessions to be held at Haskell on innovative teaching techniques and special projects to improve science and math education for Native Americans.
