Man accused of inappropriately touching woman, punching employee at The Hawk

Police early Thursday morning arrested a 20-year-old man who was accused of inappropriately touching a woman inside The Hawk, 1340 Ohio, and punching a bar staff member in the face, said Sgt. Matt Sarna, a police spokesman.

Sarna said about 1:30 a.m. a bar employee observed the suspect grab the woman, and while the man was being escorted outside he struck the employee on the side of the face. A Lawrence officer driving by the area observed bar staff members restraining the man on the ground and later arrested him.

The bar employee did not require medical attention, Sarna said. The suspect was not formally charged Thursday or Friday and was eventually released from custody, according to Douglas County Jail records, meaning prosecutors could still be reviewing it.

Had the Hawk staff been more careful in checking IDs, this 20 year-old would have never been allowed entry to cause trouble.

Unless things have changed in the past ten/fifteen years, you only need to be 18 to enter (but 21 to drink) at the Hawk.

Hawk is 21 to enter. The Crossing was 18 to enter, "21" to drink. RIP

Hahahaha...I'm not laughing AT you per se. I'm assuming you're just ignorant of the age group who patronizes The Hawk. If you want to get into the The Hawk all you need is a KU ID, and if for some reason the bouncers are being cranky just get ANY ID which says you're over 21, it doesn't even need to be the same race, gender, or height as you. I ran into the owner of The Hawk the other day and I asked him if he knew most of the people going to his bar were under 21. He didn't outright say yes but he did say, 'I know the place we have in the [Lawrence] bar scene'.

A KU ID does not work, if you think it does it just proves you have never been to the hawk!

However, you are right that an ID that says you are over 21 does mostly work as long as there is a resemblance. However, you are still using a fake ID if the person is not you!
