25 years ago: Upward Bound students enjoy stay at KU

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 15, 1986:

  • About 50 inner-city high-school students were enrolled in Upward Bound’s six-week summer program on the Kansas University campus. The students were attending classes in math and English, living in the residence halls, and availing themselves in various campus and community opportunities during their stay in Lawrence.
  • Two street projects, the West 15th Street extension from Monterey Way to Wakarusa Drive and the proposed paving of Wakaruse from Sixth to Clinton Parkway, were raising the ire of some residents. Persons whose property near the street fell into the “special assessments” benefit district were opposed to sharing the construction costs for the roads and improvements.
