Investigators work to identify body found in submerged car in Lake Shawnee

? Shawnee County coroners continue to work to identify remains found in a car that was submerged in Lake Shawnee.

Shawnee County Sheriff’s Lt. Phil Higdon says coroners have been able to verify that at least one set of adult human remains was in the car when it was pulled from the lake Saturday near the Shawnee Yacht Club. The person’s gender could not be immediately determined.

Higdon says the car apparently was in the lake for a long time.

Officers were also having trouble gathering information on the car, which was an older model Oldsmobile. Higdon says crews couldn’t find the license plate or vehicle identification number.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks found the car a few months ago while testing new radar equipment.
