Wichita man who died in house fire had mobility issues

? Friends of a 75-year-old man who died in a Wichita fire say he may have been unable to escape because he had mobility problems.

Don Wilkinson died early Tuesday in a fire at his home. His 51-year-old son, Bruce, died after going into the house to rescue his dad.

Steve Slack, pastor of Westlink Christian Church in Wichita, says Don Wilkinson used a cane and often needed help from his wife, Eva, with mobility.

Four other family members escaped the fire. But Bruce Wilkinson went back inside and apparently was overcome by smoke. Firefighters pulled him from the house but he died at a hospital. Don Wilkinson was found dead in the living room.

The Wichita Eagle reports that joint funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Westlink.
