From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 8, 1986:
- With the onset of warmer weather and the release of students from school, Lawrence police officers were beginning to receive complaints about bicyclists riding on downtown sidewalks and running stop signs. Young people on bikes tended to forget that traffic rules apply to them, Maj. Ron Olin said. Olin also mentioned that people buying mopeds needed to be aware that they needed to purchase a license to operate the vehicle and that a helmet was required. “It is important for people to know traffic rules before they operate the mopeds on city streets,” Olin said.
- An informal meeting had been scheduled for July 22 to discuss the possibilities of a resort at Clinton Lake. Officials from Lawrence and Topeka had been invited to meet and explore the idea, which had been discussed for several years.
