June 6, 2011

A man was transported via air ambulance to the Kansas University Hospital after falling from a third-story balcony of an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Clinton Parkway in Lawrence at 9:55 p.m. Sunday, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division Chief Lyle Schwartz. Schwartz said the man was in serious condition.

Lawrence Police Department Sgt. Trent McKinley said police are treating the incident as an accident with no criminal activity involved.

I hope they are ok. That is a long fall.

He's lucky to be alive. Statistically, nearly half of all falls from that height are fatal.

My heart goes out to the family, hope he makes it. It will be a long tough road, I've been there, but it can turn out all right. For the family, right now you are his only advocate. Keep your eyes open and ask questions if something doesn't seem right. Problems overlooked by doctors and hospital resulted in a couple surgeries later on that would not have been needed if treated right away. They expect patients to complain about pain and sometimes tend to write it off as related to the other more apparent injuries. Good luck.
