40 years ago: Ammonia truck overturns near Midland

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 5, 1971:

  • A two-ton ammonia truck of the Farmers Co-Op Association, Lawrence, overturned north of Lawrence near Midland. The uninjured driver, who declined to identify himself, had lost control of the truck while turning off the highway onto a dirt road. Two units from the Lawrence Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to stand by until the truck was set back on its wheels.
  • A group of Boy Scouts, including Jeff Underwood, Scott Stuewe, Bobby Rummer, Rusty Roberts, and Mark Freitag, were pictured getting ready for a 25-mile bicycle hike. The boys were all members of Troop 55, sponsored by the West Side Presbyterian Church.
