25 years ago: Neighborhood residents applaud decision for Ninth and Maine

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 5, 1986:

  • About 20 Lawrence residents, among a group who had recently circulated a petition for more traffic controls in their neighborhood, cheered the decision of the Traffic Safety Commission to recommend a traffic light at the intersection of Ninth and Maine. The city commission was to make the final decision at their next meeting.
  • Two men were being charged with second-degree murder in the recent death of a man who had been found shot at Centennial Park after a large outdoor party. Police were not saying whether the shooting had been racially motivated.
