Brownback names GOP chair to lead Children’s Cabinet

July 28, 2011

— Gov. Sam Brownback on Thursday announced the appointment of Amanda Adkins to be chair of the Kansas Children's Cabinet.

Adkins also is currently chair of the Kansas Republican Party and served on Brownback's staff when he was a U.S. senator.

Adkins replaces Melissa Ness, an attorney and management consultant, as chair of the Children's Cabinet, which oversees expenditures from the state's portion of the tobacco settlement.

Adkins also is executive and general manager of health services for Cerner Corp.

Hey...At least she is from Kansas. Although she probably thinks the Children's Cabinet is Children's furniture store in Leawood.

Replacing Melissa was a bad move. It would be hard for anyone to gain the incredible amount of knowledge Melissa has about children's issues or the programs, services, and policies that affect the kids in our state.

I would have to agree that Melissa did have an incredible amount of knowledge. But she often used it to aid main foster care contractors wishes in the legislature. In most cases these wishes benefit the contractors profit margins and are to the detriment of health and safety for children. I don't think she even realized she was going down that road. She is quite intelligent so I suspect someday she will reflect and see that it occured.

avhjmlk, I totally agree!! Melissa is the best there is! She is one of a handful that TRULY cares about children's issues as well as one of the kindest people on the planet. Those are going to be some pretty big shoes to fill. So, Amanda is going to be the chair of the republican party AND chair the children's cabinet? No way....

Of course Adkins job will be to divert the funds to enterprises that will assist the Kochs. Poor little rich guys need more money.
