25 years ago: Longtime ‘El Matador’ owner dies

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 28, 1986:

A local family was mourning the death of their patriarch. Tiburcio L. Reyes, 68, had died this week after a year’s bout with cancer. It had been his wish that his El Matador Cafe in North Lawrence would pass on to his children as a gift from him and their mother, Felicitas (Betty) Garcia Reyes, who had died in 1974. Gathering at the restaurant on the day before his funeral, three of his four children had reminisced about their father even as they vowed to maintain the restaurant and pass it along to their own children.
