Fire on West 24th Terrace displaces one resident

A Tuesday morning fire in an apartment southwest of Clinton Parkway and Crestline Drive has displaced one person, a Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical spokeswoman said.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 8:42 a.m. Tuesday at 2411 W. 24th Terrace, southwest of Clinton Parkway and Crestline Drive, and crews declared the fire under control at 9:08 a.m. said Division Chief Eve Tolefree.

When they arrived crews reported smoke showing from the rear of the residence, which firefighters classified as a four-plex. Fire Marshal James King said earlier Tuesday the fire started in a second-floor bathroom where a contractor was working.

Tolefree said firefighters assisted two occupants from the residence. Medics treated a contractor at the scene for minor abrasions, and no firefighters were injured, she said. One occupant was displaced as a result of the fire, but the occupant declined further assistance, Tolefree said.

Firefighters Tuesday were still investigating the cause of the fire and an estimate of the damage.
