Smell, Sparks Kansas Amateur finalists

Top-seeded Kyle Smell and No. 3 seed Hunter Sparks will play in the 36-hole championship match of the Kansas Amateur today.

Smell, a Kansas State University golfer, beat Steve Groom of Raytown, Mo., 3-and-1, in Saturday’s match-play quarterfinals, then edged Jeffrey Lee of Overland Park, 2-and-1, in the semifinals.

Sparks, a Wichita State golfer, beat two-time Kansas Amateur champ Bryan Norton, of Mission Hills, 7-and-5 in the quarter finals and edged Alex Higgs of Overland Park, 2-and-1, in the semis.
