Club news for July 23, 2011

The University Bridge Club announces results of its July 16 meeting with hosts Dan and Carolyn Harden.

Pink winners: Virginia Williams, first; Cora Kuepker, second; Jo Anne Hicks, third; Joan VanNice, fourth; and Hazel Stellmacher, fifth.

Blue winners: Dale Kring, first; Alice Akin, second; Marc Kuepker, third; Lois Liebert, fourth; and John Golden, fifth.

Over the Rainbow Doll Club met July 14 at the home of Vera Piersee. Members reported on the special meeting to make handkerchief dresses for the club dolls at Hancock’s Fabrics on July 9. As an ongoing project, beginning in August, members will cover a craft book box and fit it with storage for doll items. Speakers for the club’s open meeting were suggested and alternative meeting places for the annual open meeting were discussed. Piersee gave a lesson on nursery rhymes. Each of the rhymes selected and read were represented by dolls provided by Piersee’s collection or members’ collections. Jan Dyer won the door prize.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 13 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Ed Howard and John Fittell, first in A; Kathy Rolfe and Mary Mertz, second in A and first in B; Vince Nordberg and Steven Vossler, third in A; Maragrete Hartman and Albert Ballard, fourth in A, second in B, and first in C; Chris Lane and Jean Khatib, third in B; and Mary Cornwell and Patricia Lechtenberg, second in C.

East-West winners were David Piro and Paul Heitzman, first in A; Jeremy Martin and Craig Huneke, second in A and first in B; Catherine Blumenfeld and Grant Sutton, third in A and second in B; Eldon Herd and Shari Krentzel tied for fourth in A with Jan O’Connor and Lois Clark; O’Connor and Clark also placed third in B; and Dick Shaffer and Angie Davidson, first in C.

The Thursday Morning Mentor Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 14 was directed by Chris Lane. Winners were Virginia Seaver and Jean Khatib, first; Chris Lane and Barbara McCorkle, second; Mary Cornwell and Mary Locniskar, third; and Deronda Ashley and Gary Joyce tied in fourth with Don Daugherty and Rich Bryan.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 15 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Marilyn Martin and Clarice Broz, first in A, B and C; Virginia Eddy and Charles Hedges, second in A and B; Jeremy Martin and James Masilamani, third in A; Virginia Seaver and Brian Barrett, fourth in A; Chris Lane and Carol Ball, third in B; and Marge Hitchcock and Betty Collier, second in C.

East-West winners were Jean Khatib and Debbie Bettinger, first in A, B and C; Ed Howard and Craig Huneke, second in A; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, third in A; and Dick Shaffer and Jack Flickinger, fourth in A and second in B.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 18 was directed by Virginia Seaver. Winners were Steven Vossler and Larry Weatherholt, first; Mary Fenlon and Janice Hollowell tied for second with Kent McCullough and Bobby Patton; Jerry Sloan and Lois Clark, fourth; and Ed Howard and James Masilamani, fifth.
