Kansas’ U.S. senators considering debt ceiling proposals
Topeka ? Republican Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran of Kansas say any proposal to raise the federal debt ceiling must have tax-reform provisions they say will stimulate the economy.
Roberts and Moran both said Wednesday they’re studying rival proposals being considered in Congress.
One is a House package to cut spending and force a balanced budget. Moran says the GOP-sponsored plan shows a willingness to raise the debt ceiling, and should not be rejected immediately by the Senate.
Roberts said he was reviewing a plan brokered by six senators that would raise the debt ceiling and cut federal spending. He adds that any package must include tax reform to stand a chance of passing.
