Douglas County Senior Services providing low-cost lunches

Lawrence senior citizens can find a hearty meal around lunchtime at the Douglas County Senior Services building, 745 Vt.

The meal is served around noon Monday through Friday, and the center encourages seniors to pay $2.75, but “if you do not have $2.75, pay what you can,” said Senior Meals Manager Kim Wittman.

Seniors must be at least 60 and be able to verify their age.

Seniors also must call in a day before to ensure they receive a meal because Senior Meals prepares meals for only those who have a reservation.

“If you are homebound, we offer a delivery system for the same price,” Wittman said.

Homebound means a senior cannot drive and depends on somebody else for the majority of their day.

Wittman added that Senior Meals also provides a Grab & Go carryout system for those who are in a hurry.

“Just make sure you call in a day in advance no matter what meal service you want,” Wittman said.

Wittman can be reached at 842-0543.
