100 years ago: Doctor removes needle from patient’s hand
From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 21, 1911:
“More rain fell this afternoon and the indications are for more moisture this evening. There were light showers at intervals almost all day and it is quite evident that the drouth in Kansas is no more for 1911.”
“Dr. Simmons yesterday removed a needle from the hand of Miss Agnes Gray that had been lodged in the girl’s hand for six months. The girl was washing some clothes when a needle in one of the garments was entirely buried in her hand. It caused her considerable pain but was not removed until yesterday.”
[Advertisement] “It don’t pay to make a holiday trip without ‘photography on the side.’ Woodward & Co. have some compact Kodaks that don’t ‘bulk your baggage any.’ If $15.00 is more than you want to spend, call and see what $3.00 to $7.00 will do” … “1911 Mailing List of Douglas County Taxpayers. As returned by the Assessors. A complete list bound in pamphlet form of convenient size. Price 75c. For sale only at Journal-World Office or sent postpaid upon receipt of price.”
