Police investigating reported strong-armed robbery near Seventh and Michigan streets

July 20, 2011, 11:36 a.m. Updated July 20, 2011, 3:13 p.m.

Police have found a man in Leavenworth who is a suspect in what was originally reported as a strong-armed robbery that occurred Wednesday morning near Seventh and Michigan streets in Lawrence.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said police were called at 11:20 a.m. after a 22-year-old Lawrence man alleged he met a Leavenworth man at a pre-arranged location about the possible sale of a cellphone.

“The Leavenworth man took off running with the phone after obtaining it without force or threat,” Sarna said. “The suspect got into a waiting vehicle and fled the scene. The victim returned home to call police.”

No one had been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon, and Sarna said police would forward a copy of the report to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for a decision about whether to file charges.

A cellphone? I wonder how much liquor and crack that is going to get them.

Craigslist is probably where they saw it for sale before stealing it. Always meet in a public place. If not carry self protection means.

Have you seen that hilarious video of Paco the Chihuahua chasing off two loser armed robbers? Very dangerous situation but it ended in a very amusing way. Those guys have to be mortified.

Why is it a "strong armed" robbery if there was no force or threat involved?

It's apparent to the readers that the "thief" is also a weight lifter.
