4 injured in fiery accident near Wichita on Kansas Turnpike

? A fiery crash on the Kansas Turnpike near Wichita sent four men to the hospital with burns.

The accident occurred early Tuesday in east Wichita.

KFDI reports that four men were driving an SUV towing a trailer with another SUV when a tire on the trailer blew out.

Highway Patrol Lt. John Lehnherr says a semi-trailer truck driver didn’t realize how slowly the men were traveling and hit the trailer from behind. A fuel tank on the semi ruptured and ignited, causing a blaze that was visible for almost a mile.

The patrol says two of the men were critically burned and two suffered serious burns.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
