Fund established to help handle medical costs for 13-year-old girl injured in bicycle accident south of Lawrence

Friends of the family of a 13-year-old Maple Hill girl who was injured in a recent Douglas County accident have set up a fund for donations to help the family with medical expenses.

Donations are accepted through the Mikal Bond Fund in care of Community National Bank, 5431 S.W. 29th St., Topeka, KS 66614. Donations also can be taken to any bank branch in Topeka.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said that Mikal, while riding a bike, failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection south of Lawrence on July 10 when she was struck by a vehicle. Mikal has been listed in critical condition at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., since the accident.

She was riding with her parents that morning in the Lizard Under the Skillet bicycle ride.
