25 years ago: Lawrence enjoys building boom

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 18, 1986:

Lawrence was in the middle of a construction boom, according to a count of local building permits issued for the first half of 1986. The number of permits issued for single-family, multi-family and business construction was 27 percent higher than for the same period in 1985 and 36 percent higher than in 1984. One large project under construction was Sallie Mae’s $4.2 million regional service center northeast of Sixth and Iowa. Eighty apartments were going up at Eddingham Place, and several homes were planned for the area near Peterson Road and Crestline Drive.
