Bullwinkle’s granted special use permit

City commissioners cleared the way for a bar in the Oread neighborhood to extend its hours to 2 a.m.

Commissioners unanimously granted a special use permit to Bullwinkle’s, 1444 Tenn.

The special use permit is a requirement before the bar can convert to a cereal malt beverage establishment that must close at midnight to a full liquor-by-the-drink establishment that can stay open to 2 a.m.

Commissioners approved the permit after seeing a new landscaping plan for the bar that adds several mulberry bushes to the area in the front of the establishment. It is hoped that the thorny bushes will dissuade patrons from loitering in front of the bar after closing time.
