Matt Sutliffe contributed a home run and four RBIs, leading the K.C. Sluggers to a 6-1 victory over the Lawrence Swag on Wednesday at Lawrence High.

The Sluggers are a summer league baseball team made up mostly of Lawrence High and Free State baseball players.

Shane Willoughby and Troy Willoughby added two stolen bases apiece, while Bryce Montes de Oca picked up the win in relief after pitching two hitless innings.

The Sluggers will begin a wood bat tournament today in Topeka.

I agree with Julie. Who's on the Lawrence Swag & why have I never heard of them?

And quit using this paragraph every time you print a little blurb about the KC Sluggers.

"The Sluggers are a summer league baseball team made up mostly of Lawrence High and Free State baseball players."

Why aren't they Lawrence Sluggers anyway?

One more question. Why aren't there ever any stories about the American Legion Baseball team like there used to be?

last question, I promise. How are they able to use the Lawrence High Field for their games?

@Royals - I don't think a legion team exists in town this year, but what about the other 4 teams in town associated with the two high schools? Why no mention of them at all? (My guess is none of the coaches bother to call anything in, but they are currently playing a tournament format at the two high schools this weekend.)

They're playing this year because I've seem them play and a friend of mine is one of their coaches. They play their home games at Ice field in Holcom.

Interesting. I've got no clue as to who is playing on the Swag or the legion team since the majority of the high school kids are playing for either the Sluggers (good question on why they aren't the Lawrence Sluggers btw), or one of the four (two each school) teams affiliated with the high schools. Any idea if the team is mostly composed of players that have already used up their high school eligibility or not? I've been out to watch the four high school teams play quite a bit, haven't seen the Sluggers once yet and didn't even realize the legion program was still going. Wondered what they were doing with Ice Field this summer.

Okay here you go! The "Swag" coaches don't keep a book, hence no reporting. We think they are using the Legion shirts but not sure. They don't necessarily play Legion teams. Players are from LHS, Free State, Perry-Lec, Washburn Rual, and Liberty. Mostly 2011 graduates who are playing at the next level but haved played together at one time or another so they are just playing for fun this summer! Imagine that!!!
