40 years ago: ‘Gang fight’ in Eudora results in arrests, injuries

From the Lawrence Journal-World for July 6, 1971:

  • Two men, aged 22 and 20, had been taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after having been injured in a fight in Eudora. Three other persons were arrested as a result of what police were calling a “gang fight” at midnight on Eudora’s Main Street. An estimated 50 persons had been involved in the fight, which had started out as a fistfight and then had gotten out of control, according to police.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Young, Rt. 1, had fired off the family firearms in celebration of July 4. The family owned a foot-long brass cannon and an eight-inch cannon, which they fired only on Independence Day each year.
